| 英文摘要: | Against the dual backdrop of an increasingly aging population and the deepening development of a digital and intelligent society, the development of institutional elderly care and information services for the elderly have received significant attention from both the government and society. The information practices of the elderly in institutional care contexts have become a key issue in bridging the digital divide among the elderly and building a senior-friendly digital society. A review of existing research reveals that the field of information practice has paid insufficient attention to the unique context of institutional care. Issues such as unclear conceptual definitions of information practice, the need to verify the applicability of classical theories, a lack of holistic research perspectives, and the absence of discussions on the utility of information practice make it difficult to address the actual information practice needs of elderly residents in institutional care. Based on the aforementioned backdrop, and centered on the theme of “Information Practices of the Elderly in Institutional Care Settings,” this study employs a progressive research approach guided by information grounds theory, the series of models on everyday information practices, and utilitarianism theory. First, field study and the grounded theory analysis are utilized to describe the everyday information practices of elderly individuals in institutional care contexts and construct a theoretical model. Second, using deductive reasoning method, the concept of “information practice utility” is proposed, and text analysis is employed to explore the manifestations and connotations of information practice utility among elderly residents in institutional care. Finally, questionnaire surveys, mathematical statistical analysis, and fsQCA are conducted to investigate the level of information practices among the elderly in institutional care in China, as well as the influencing factors and configuration pathways. The study finds that within the information ground of elderly care institutions, participants are distributed in concentric layers centered on the elderly. Residents engage in information acquisition, utilization, creation, and sharing practices across three types of scenarios. These settings and scenarios exhibit stability, privacy, and environmental adaptability, thereby establishing a theoretical model of information practices among institutionalized elderly. The utility of information practices among the elderly in institutional care contexts manifests in eight types, such as experiences of improved physical health, enhanced satisfaction with care life, and emotional support. These fall into three hierarchical levels—utility enhancement in the objective material world, the subjective spiritual world, and the objective knowledge world—and exhibit a bottom-up spatial distribution. The overall level of information practice utility among institutionalized elderly individuals is 3.58 points (on a 5-point scale), indicating a relatively high level. This is influenced by 10 factors, including gender, educational level, different personality function types, physical health status, and different levels of nursing homes; The interaction of these factors reveals four pathways leading to “high information practice utility” among the elderly, categorized as the “digital inclusion under advantageous conditions” and “active integration under disadvantageous conditions” types. Conversely, four pathways lead to “non-high information practice utility,” categorized as the “action-constrained,” “dual constraint of ability and action,” and “multiple condition-constrained” types. This study further discusses the unique characteristics, challenges, and underlying causes of information practices among institutionalized older adults. Compared to those receiving community-based or home-based care, the information practices of institutionalized older adults exhibit a stronger recreational orientation and a continuity of habitus; their agency can help alleviate the information disadvantage faced by some older adults. However, they still face issues such as the amplification of information challenges due to the closed physical spaces of care facilities, passive digital inclusion, and information fragmentation resulting from the rigid hierarchy of nursing homes. This study also explores the developmental potential of the information grounds theory and its connections with small-world theory and the theory of personal information worlds, as well as the sustainability of the information ground lifecycle, offering insights for refining the research framework and advancing theoretical development in this field. At the practical level, this study proposes strategies for addressing the challenges in the information practices of institutionalized elderly residents and enhancing their utility, providing effective solutions to real-world problems. This study makes theoretical contributions to refining the theoretical framework of information practices, expanding the scope and applicability of information grounds theory, and integrating multidisciplinary approaches to address the information challenges faced by vulnerable groups. It also holds significant practical value in enhancing the digital literacy and information practice effectiveness of older adults, providing evidence and intellectual support for building an elderly-friendly digital society, and advancing the development of smart elderly care. The study includes 18 figures, 56 tables, and 257 references. | |
