With the continuous improvement of living standards and the growing awareness of health among consumers, functional foods have attracted increasing attention, and the industry has experienced rapid growth. Despite the expanding market size, challenges persist in the research and development (R&D) management process, including overreliance on traditional consumer experiences, insufficient evidence-based support, and non-compliance in promotional practices. As a leading enterprise in the functional food sector, Company Z faces these challenges, which hinder the scientific rigor of its products and its competitiveness in the market. Therefore, it has become crucial for the company to establish a systematic R&D management framework that ensures safety and efficacy, while leveraging differentiated advantages to capture market share. Evidence-Based Medicine refers to a clinical decision-making approach that integrates the best available scientific evidence with expert experience and patient preferences. This methodology overcomes the limitations of relying solely on anecdotal or expert-driven practices, thereby improving treatment outcomes and patient satisfaction. The principles of EBM offer valuable methodological insights for the product development process in the functional food industry. By incorporating EBM concepts into R&D management, companies can enhance the success rate of innovation, strengthen the scientific credibility of their products, and improve brand reputation. This approach holds significant practical value. This thesis, grounded in the principles of evidence-based medicine and aligned with the current R&D processes of Company Z, aims to identify existing challenges in its R&D management through methods such as questionnaire surveys. It analyzes the root causes of these challenges and proposes optimization strategies across multiple dimensions, including corporate strategy, R&D workflow, data platform development, talent capability enhancement, and performance evaluation. Furthermore, an implementation plan and safeguard mechanisms are designed to ensure the long-term sustainability of the evidence-based R&D management model. This thesis integrates concepts such as evidence-based medicine into the management of food research and development. It combines the internal operational context and R&D practices of Company Z with interdisciplinary knowledge from evidence-based medicine, food science, nutrition, statistics, and data science. This thesis establishes a closed-loop chain encompassing "market research – R&D verification – small-scale efficacy testing – clinical trials – product commercialization – market promotion – effectiveness monitoring," forming a comprehensive and systematic evidence-based R&D management system. This system significantly enhances the scientific capabilities and market competitiveness of Company Z’s products. Additionally, the findings of this thesis can serve as a reference model for innovation in other enterprises within the functional food industry, contributing to the overall advancement of the sector.
