Against the backdrop of population aging and digital transformation, women of the sandwich generation, as the core bearers of health information proxy search within families, often encounter multi-dimensional predicaments that have not been touched upon in traditional research. This study focuses on the real predicaments of this group in health information proxy search, following a research logic that encompasses the representation of the predicaments, their formation mechanisms, and the paths to resolution. By adopting a mixed research method, it systematically reveals their behavioral characteristics, the mechanisms of the predicaments, and intervention strategies, providing theoretical and practical support for bridging the intergenerational digital divide. The research is carried out through a three-stage design: (1) A questionnaire survey of 330 women of the sandwich generation reveals that their health information proxy search behavior exhibits the characteristics of "emergency-driven - efficiency-prioritized - trust-reconstructed". 80.61% of the search behaviors are triggered by sudden health events, 73.94% of the samples rely on search engines, and only 21.21% use professional platforms. The distribution of predicaments shows that ethical burden, intergenerational conflict, information barriers, and the absence of social support constitute a four-dimensional pressure system, among which the intensity of ethical pressure is significantly higher than that of other dimensions. (2) Through semi-structured interviews with 21 respondents, qualitative data is obtained, and a "squeeze - vortex" mechanism model is constructed using grounded theory's three-level coding, revealing the static roots and dynamic evolution paths of the predicaments: the ethical squeeze, technological squeeze, and resource squeeze form institutional oppression; the cognitive, conflict, and emotional triple vortices interact and intensify through the path of "ability collapse - game escalation - emotional breakdown", leading to the continuous deterioration of the predicaments. (3) Based on the results of quantitative and qualitative analyses, a three-level intervention system of "structural decompression - dynamic interception - system reconstruction" is proposed, including strategies such as the reconstruction of family responsibility contracts, the development of age-friendly tools, and the establishment of intergenerational mediation mechanisms in communities, providing operational solutions for resolving the predicaments. This study constructs a cross-disciplinary analytical framework, compensating for the insufficiency of traditional information behavior research in explaining dynamic predicaments and cultural contexts. It also innovatively proposes the "squeeze - vortex" interlocking mechanism model, revealing the interaction mechanism between structural oppression and dynamic cycles. This research provides a basis for the reconstruction of family health responsibilities, the optimization of community support networks, and the formulation of public policies, promoting the transformation of health information services from being solely shouldered by women to shared responsibility. The research conclusions not only expand the theoretical boundaries of information proxy search behavior but also provide new methodological support for alleviating the intergenerational digital divide and promoting the fairness of health information.
