英文摘要: | Against the backdrop of an intensifying global technological revolution and the deepening of the "dual carbon" strategy, China's manufacturing sector faces the dual challenges of upgrading traditional models and achieving green, low-carbon development. With the rapid iteration of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing, digital transformation—through technological empowerment and process optimization—has gradually emerged as a crucial pathway for promoting high-quality industrial development and achieving breakthroughs in green innovation. This paper selects manufacturing firms listed on China's Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share markets from 2010 to 2023 as its research subjects. Based on the theories of information asymmetry, dynamic capabilities, and sustainable development, it addresses the two major bottlenecks faced by manufacturing enterprises in enhancing green innovation quality, namely, insufficient capabilities and financing shortages, by constructing a dual driving mechanism centered on capability enhancement and financial coordination. The study systematically investigates how digital transformation influences the quality of green innovation. Empirical tests reveal that: First, digital transformation significantly enhances green innovation quality. As the level of digitalization increases, firms exhibit marked improvements in the technological originality and application potential of their green innovation outputs—a finding that remains robust across alternative models, variable definitions, and sample periods. Second, absorption capability and financing constraints act as intermediaries in the effect of digital transformation on green innovation quality. Digital transformation optimizes mechanisms for uncovering tacit knowledge, integrating internal information, and facilitating knowledge sharing, thereby alleviating the problem of ineffective conversion of knowledge into capabilities. Furthermore, by leveraging digital platforms to strengthen communication and signal transmission with external investors and financial institutions, it effectively mitigates financing constraints, overcoming the dual challenges of insufficient capabilities and financial shortages in the pursuit of high-quality green innovation. Third, internal control exerts a positive moderating effect, with the enhancement of internal control mechanisms further reinforcing the positive impact of digital transformation on green innovation quality. Fourth, this promoting effect is even more pronounced in non-heavy-polluting firms and state-owned enterprises. This study confirms that digital transformation has injected new impetus into the improvement of green innovation quality for manufacturing enterprises. It also reveals the internal mechanisms for enhancing green innovation quality through strengthening internal absorptive capacity and optimizing the external financing environment. These findings enrich existing research on the impact of digital transformation on green innovation quality, providing a theoretical framework for the coordinated development of digitalization and greening in the manufacturing sector, as well as offering practical implications for firms pursuing breakthroughs in green innovation and for policy formulation.
