 Program Overview

Master of Library and Information Studies(MLIS) Program at Nankai University was authorized by the Ministry of Education in Mainland China in summer of 2010 and started to enroll master students in fall 2011. The program aims to provide master degree training for information professionals,including librarians, archivists, information architects, knowledge managers, information system analysts, information policy experts, information managers in public, private and the third sectors.

The program is derived from the 30 years' history of Library and Information Science education at Nankai University. At the information age, this program helps to create a new educating model to meet the demand in human resources at information-related departments. Graduates in the MLIS program are expected to have strong international visions, work ethics, advanced management ideas, excellent marketing skills and modern information technology skills.

Program Features

International

The faculty of the Department of Information Resource Management is a richly diverse group of men and women who are leaders in their respective fields of study, among whom 15% have obtained Doctorate Degrees from renowned universities in USA or UK and have overseas teaching experience, and 30% have at least one year's experience studying abroad. 64% of them hold professorship, and 43% are PhD candidates' supervisors

Professional

MLIS education tries to cultivate students' professional awareness and capabilities based on the core competence and practical demands of this career.

Dual-advisor System  

Each student is assigned two advisors, an academic advisor from the school and a professional advisor from related areas.

The program provides two advisors for each student, one advisor is from academic and the other is from the professional.

     ●Demonstrate an ability to apply knowledge in analyzing and solving 

      practice-oriented problems even in a new or unfamiliar circumstance

     ●Apply knowledge to solve practice-oriented problems in unfamiliar business circumstance

     ●Demonstrate a capability in oral and written communication and presentation

Tuition

Tuition for the 2.5 year program is RMB38000 which covers the costs of books and supplies.
