Program Overview

In 1991, Nankai University became one of the first nine universities in China to experiment with the MBA education. As a pioneer, Nankai undertook the mission to explore the instructional and practice patterns of MBA program. The MBA center of Nankai University was founded in 1999, which enabled the further development of the MBA program toward standardization, specialization and systematization. After more than twenty years' development, the MBA program of Nankai University has won a high reputation for its unique characteristics, and it has become one of the most influential MBA programs in China. The MBA graduates have made great contributions to their enterprises, and alumni culture has been formed with "Teamwork, Co-Winning, Innovation, and Cooperation" as its core values.

Nankai's MBA program aims at cultivating "leader"-oriented management elites with a global view and well-versed in the disciplines of humanities. The MBA students should show humanistic care for the society, the state and the people, and shoulder social responsibilities. Under the MBA training, the students can improve their international mentality and cross-cultural skills.

Program Features

Comprehensive Advantages and Strong Knowledge of Humanities

Nankai University is a comprehensive university with a variety of disciplines in humanities and sciences. During the development of the MBA program, the university has made full use of this advantage and provided the students with sufficient academic resources by offering relevant courses.

Beneficial Interaction between Research and Teaching

The frontier academic research of the Business School offers abundant resources for class teaching activities. The interaction between research and teaching underlines both the research strengths of the school and the characteristics in talents cultivation. It is the MBA program that provides the channels for the teachers to familiarize themselves with enterprises. Therefore, the MBA program is considered an important strategic resource for teachers to investigate practical problems.

Students’Involvement and Self-Management

The management approach adopted by the MBA center is instruction-centered, and self-managed. The MBA program not only sets the class instruction as the essence of education but also brings the students’ subjective initiative into full play by encouraging their direct and deep involvement in instructional management, project design, reform and innovation.

Emphasis on Practice-Orientation

Practice runs through the entire course of MBA education from enrollment and cultivation to employment. The Business School has established a Steering Committee for MBA Practice, and its members are mostly entrepreneurial executives and government officials. Nankai’s MBA education employs the system of dual tutoring and co-instructing. Each MBA student is under the instruction of two tutors, with one tutor from the Business School and the other from business. MBA students are encouraged to attend lectures given by entrepreneurs, and to offer free consultation for enterprises. The Business School also sponsors an Entrepreneur Forum regularly, in which executives of multinational corporations are invited for lectures.

Exploration and Innovation

As Nankai’s MBA program has the longest history in China, it has always taken the lead in MBA education by giving prominence to teaching and management innovation. For example, Nankai initiated the dual-tutoring system in China, and pioneered in organizing MBA Association Chairman Forum and offering the courses of Corporate Governance, Entrepreneurial Management, Service Management and Project Management, etc.

Internationalization

Nankai’s MBA program has always attached great importance to international cooperation. So far, the Business School of Nankai University has established academic communication and student exchange in MBA education with scores of foreign universities such as Britain’s Imperial College London, Austria’s University of Graz, Sweden’s Jönköping University, South Korea’s Seoul National University, Japan’s Hitotsubashi University, America’s Harvard University, Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University and Australia’s University of New South Wales.
