Department of Tourism

In 1981, the fledgling period of tourism education in China，Tourism Department of Nankai University was jointly founded by National Tourism Administration and Nankai University. As one of the first tourism departments founded in China, it has accumulated substantial academic accomplishments, and formed its own characteristics in 23 years' development.
　　In 1991, Tourism Department, as one of the first groups in China, was entitled to award the Master Degree, which offers three research fields: Tourism Development and Management, Tourism Enterprise Management and Tourism Marketing. In 1995, Tourism Department was listed in the World Major Tourism Educational Organization by WTO (World Tourism Organization). In 2003, it was authorized to award the Doctor Degree.
　　Now, it has 12 professional teachers, 75% of them possess senior professional post and five of them hold the Doctor Degree. Over half of the teachers have experiences of studying abroad or doing researching as visiting scholars.
　　Since the establishment of Tourism Department, it has undertaken and fulfilled numerous researching projects from the state, provinces and individual corporations, and at the same time it has gained remarkable economic benefit as well as social benefit. Its education concept and curriculum system have obtained recognition and been followed by other tourism educational institutions both at home and abroad. A series of textbooks on tourism management authored by it have gained nationwide renown and won the first prize of excellent textbooks from National Education Ministry.
　　Over 20 years, Tourism Department has offered a large number of outstanding graduates for society; among them were over 2,000 Bachelors, 100 Masters, and about 4,000 vocational students. They have made distinguished achievements, such as taking the first place in the National Ability Tracking Test for Tourism Graduates, organized by National Tourism Administration. The first and third prize owners of National Knowledge and Skill Contest for Tourist Guides are all graduated from Tourism Department and so is the youngest president of 5-star hotel in China.
　　The frequent academic communications with other institutions at home and abroad accelerate our teaching and researching work. Basing on the comprehensive university, Tourism Department cultivates a unique educational concept and management style, enhancing itself in ground theory and quality fostering. Emphasizing scientific research, it is practical and diverse. Moreover, it constantly upgrades its development of academy and moral education, reflecting the latest leading trend in its academic field and business circle. Tourism Department of Nankai University is resolved to make greater contribution for the national tourism education through redoubling its exertion.
