Department of Marketing
Marketing as a special field of study at Nankai University was
first established in the late 1980s. At that time, marketing was
categorized as a specialized area of study for students majoring
in business management. In 1993 marketing became a specialized area
of concentration for graduate students majoring in political economy.
In 1995, after the establishment of the Business School at Nankai
University, marketing established itself as an area of concentration
of study for master students of business administration. In 1996,
marketing as a major area of study began to offer 4-year undergraduate
program. ¡¡¡¡Formerly, marketing as a specialized area of study was
only a section within the Business Management Department in terms
of organization structure. In October 1997, in order to meet the
demands for marketing talents in the economic reform and the development
of the market economy, also to keep in line with the readjustment
of the disciplines of the Ministry of Education of China, the Marketing
Department as a new growing area at Nankai was formally established.
¡¡¡¡After several years¡¯ building¨Cup and development, the Marketing
Department has achieved a lot in the areas of teaching, academic
research, and in providing marketing strategic planning, consultation
and personnel training for the business world. Also, the department
has achieved obviously good result in using case-teaching method.
¡¡¡¡At present, Marketing Department consists of 12-member teaching
staff, among them there are three professors (two doctor supervisors),
six associate professors, and seven out of twelve teaching staff
have doctor degrees or are pursuing the doctor degrees).
¡¡¡¡Marketing Department is currently offering 4-year study program
majoring in marketing. The specialty of the department is the concentration
on the training of the fundamental theories and methodologies in
the field of marketing and related areas, at the same time, emphasizing
to combine marketing theories with the practice.
¡¡¡¡The aim of the marketing education is to lay out systematically
solid foundation in both business management and marketing theories,
at the same time, foster business management capabilities, thus
enable the students to be competent for the work positions in such
places as both profit and non-profit organizations, marketing intermediaries,
and government agencies.
¡¡¡¡The main courses that are currently offered in the Marketing Department
include: Macro-economics, Micro-economics, Modern Management Science,
Marketing, Marketing Research, International Marketing, Market Forecasting,
Consumer Behavior Study, Financial Management and Management Information
System.
¡¡¡¡The selective courses that are offered include: Strategic Marketing
Management, Service Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, Channel
Management, Business Negotiation, Business to Business Marketing,
Human Resource Management, Business and Economic Laws, International
Commercial Laws, Commodity Study, etc.
¡¡¡¡Each year about 20 percent of the students in marketing with the
undergraduate level will go on to pursue further study on the graduate
level based on their academic competence. The rest of the students
will be working in such places as large industrial and trading companies,
wholly-owned foreign companies, joint-venture firms, China-foreign
co-operative enterprises, large state-owned enterprises, financial
and insurance companies, real estate companies in the service industry.
