Department of Business Administration

Department of Business Administration (DBA) aims at teaching and training of undergraduates of business administration, masters of business administration, masters of technology economy, MBA and doctor of business administration. In addition, the faculty of DBA is the core of International Business School.
There are 17 teachers in DBA, and most of them are young or middle-aged scholars. And five of them are doctor supervisors, twelve are professors or associate professors, and ten hold the degree of doctor.

Research focus
　　Our research focuses on organization and strategic management, entrepreneurial management, project management, service management and operations management. More than 60% of the faculties have experiences in undertaking research projects of the national level funded by National Natural Science Foundation, National Social Science Foundation, etc. And all faculties have experiences in business projects as principal investigators or participants. As a result, we have achieved a lot of leading research fundings with high impacts.
　　Department of Management, the predecessor of DBA, was rebuilt in 1980. And the famous management expert, professor Bingfu Chen is the first director. It was in 1981 that the department began to enroll undergraduates and was qualified to enroll masters of business administration. In 1983, we began to cooperate in MBA education with University of York, Mc Master University and Laval University. Then in 1986, we were qualified to provide doctor education in business administration and became one of the earliest universities in China to do so. In 1987, the subject of business administration became the priority one in Tianjin. In 1988, we allied with France to offer educations for top managers in China. Then in 1991, we began to enroll MBA as one of the nine pilot universities. The department of management had been one of the leaders in subject development, textbook and international exchange and became one of the key drivers of business education and research in China. Consequently, a number of top levels talents have been educated by us.
　　In 1994, the department of management changed her name to DBA. On the basis of the work of exploiters such as Bingfu Chen and Longgao Zhang, we have kept the subject characteristics of cross-discipline and application oriented, etc. and bravely push teaching reforms and innovations. Great progress has been made and we have been qualified to enroll post doctorate of business administration since 1999. In 2002, the subject of business administration in DBA became the national priority with the approval of the Ministry of Education and in the same year, with the support of the Ministry of Education, a pilot class of all-round talents has been established by DBA coupled with the subjects of economy and law and efforts have been made to explore the more effective education pattern of such all-round talents.
　　DBA has the mission of embedding the latest management theories in China management research and practice. And attention has been paid to pursuing the research trends, core frameworks and future directions. Furthermore, we organize our team around research and teaching, encourage teamwork and promote national and international academic exchange. As required by subject development and national economic development, we have been continuously tracking the latest development of theories and practices, actively carrying out careful-designed investigations, and pursuing theoretical innovations by applying scientific research methods.
